How prepared are you for your upcoming move? It’s always more complicated than you envisioned. The solution? Skip Bins. Skip bins are your friend and will remove a lot of the pre-move and moving day stress. Learn the best way to plan your move, and how skip bins can help declutter your space.
The move day doesn’t have to be a stressful ordeal. Plan it right, and you’ll be settling into your new home in no time! It’s best to tackle it bit by bit, and well before the moving day (or moving week).
The month before the move:
If you’re super prepared and ready to tackle the clean up well before the move – hire a skip bin a month in advance. Skip bins are great for green waste, household items, and furniture. Before you pack, it’s good to assess what you do or don’t need to bring with you. Sort out your space with a skip bin, and then focus on packing up your space.
Consider this: Why move furniture from one house to another, if you don’t plan to keep it? Transporting furniture between locations can be a big stress on moving day – especially if you don’t have the funds for a moving van. Save yourself the stress, and hire a skip bin! Eliminate the cost of transporting furniture you don’t intend to keep long term and dispose of it with a skip bin.
Tip: Dispose of unwanted furniture well before the move date. This will give you the chance to save for any new furniture you need to purchase for the new house.
Packing up belongings and moving furniture exposes a lot of hidden mess. Over the time household waste builds up – whether you knew it or not! Red waste or yellow recycle bins are not suitable for major clean outs. Skip bins (from an eco-friendly provider) are the best solution. Bonza Bins provides a green skip bin service for all your moving needs – check out our website for more information on pricing, and bin sizes.
Moving is time-consuming enough, without adding household waste and unwanted furniture on top of it. Instead of loading up the car full of rubbish – hire a skip bin! Before the move, clear out your space and dispose of any unwanted goods into a skip bin. Not only will you save time, but you’ll be saving money. With no disposal or transport fees, you can put the spare change towards decorating and furnishing your new space!
Bonza Bins provides a quick delivery service for your skip bin, at cheap competitive prices. For skip bin hire in Perth – or if you have any questions specific to your skip bin needs contact us today!
How often do you look at something and wonder whether or not it can be recycled? Instead of incorrectly throwing materials into the waste bin, let’s get educated on the best recycling practices! Check out everyday recycling mistakes that most Aussie householders make. You’ll never question it again – this guide is that foolproof!
Canned goods? Only if they’re clean, dry and empty. You’ve come this far, you’re putting it in the yellow bin. You’re halfway there! Finish the job by giving all cans a quick rinse when you’ve finished removing the contents. When cans come to the recycle plant unwashed, they’re unusable. Put in the extra effort and make sure your waste is recyclable – the planet will be a little greener for it!
Cardboard boxes are easily one of the most recyclable household items. The bigger the better! However, the recycling plant is unable to process large un-flattened cardboard boxes. Make the recyclers job easier, and flatten your cardboard boxes. By flattening the boxes, you can also squeeze more into the recycling bin – it’s a win-win.
There’s much debate about the aerosol can, but what’s the truth? Technically yes – aerosol cans are recycled as long as the can is empty. If the aerosol can contains product inside of it, it’s considered hazardous waste.
In Western Australia recycle plants have stopped processing aerosol cans because of the explosion and fire risks. For safety, double check with your local council for their policy on aerosol cans. Alternatively, collect the cans and dispose on hazardous waste drop off days. Confirm with your council about their hazardous waste collection days, and or drop off zone.
Soft plastics are a no-go. Soft plastics get caught in the recycle plant machinery and halt production. Soft plastics include bread packaging, plastic bags, tissue boxes, and plastic film. But soft plastics don’t have to go to waste. It’s encouraged to put all soft plastics into the RedCycle bins located at all Woolworths and Coles supermarkets.
Extra tip: Don’t bag recycled goods. Whether the contents inside the bag are recyclable or not, if the contents are bagged they will not be processed at recycling plants.
Recycling paper is simple – recycle away! From books, magazines, newspapers, it’s all recyclable as long as you remove any staples or paperclips that may be attached. However, shredded paper or any contaminated paper towel cannot be recycled.
Do you have a big project with a lot of recyclable materials? Stop squeezing everything into the yellow bin – get a skip bin! Skip bins are an efficient way to recycle household goods, green waste and building materials. Bonza Bins provides an eco-friendly skip bin service, with a mission to recycle as much as we can process. Never think twice about what you can or can’t recycle again.

On a construction site, there’s a lot to keep track of, and sometimes complex operations and disorganisation result in the loss of materials. This makes recycling products and managing waste difficult to do properly, and consequently create a waste of money and resource. Read on to find out what kind of materials on a construction site can be recycled, and what to do differently to ensure you’re getting the most out of your materials for your project.
Before you begin your next project, create a list of the kinds of materials you’ll need and how much waste you’ll be producing. With this in mind, reconsider the type of materials and the most efficient way the materials can be used.
Recyclable materials:
With so many recycled material options available, it’s easy to plan a project around them. However, there are a select few materials that don’t have recyclable options.
Unrecyclable materials:
It’s important to separate these materials from recyclable materials wherever possible.
To save money, consider thinking outside the box. Anything that can be repurposed ultimately saves money and reduces future costs.
In the moment, it’s easy and convenient to forget about the proper recycling procedures. Planning ensures that waste can be kept to a minimum wherever possible.
During the design phase of a project, consider integrating a sustainable design. Green design ideas include: choosing sustainable materials, repurposing readily built products, pre-calculating the exact amount of materials needed, and creating a space to store materials on/off-site to avoid theft and damage.
Sorting through waste on a construction site can be a timely task. But if you want to ensure your materials are being sorted, recycled and repurposed properly, hire an eco-friendly skip bin service. Eco-friendly skip bin services will sort through your materials and recycle accordingly.
However if you’re disposing materials and waste yourself, consider sorting materials throughout your project. Keep one bin for recyclable materials, and another for waste.

Have you noticed how much waste is produced in your workplace? Far too often we sit around waiting for others to take some initiative, rather than taking accountability for our own rubbish. Implementing recycling strategies at work may take some time, but good habits will stick with sufficient training. Read on to find out what you can do now, and how to reduce waste and sustain a green workplace.
When introducing something new into your routine, like most things, you need to create a habit to get it to stick long term. In order to implement a successful recycling initiative, all staff must be informed, and clear on their responsibilities. In a recycling training program, ensure that you focus on communicating what the program aims to achieve, why the program has been initiated, and what is expected from each employee. The success rate of a recycling program is higher when employees are clear on what’s expected and why their contribution is important to the cause.
To get your team started, make it fun! Get the team to make a list of wasteful materials in the office and how the waste can be reduced. E.g. Printing, paper cups.
Confusion and lack of awareness about recycling facilities will derail your recycling initiative. To get the habit to stick, recycling needs to be clear and simple. Absent signage will lead to people to the waste disposal method that they know. Make things easy for everyone in the workplace by placing signage on recycling paper boxes and disposal bins.
Recycling rates increase when it’s acknowledged that recycling is inconvenient. Without any sense of accountability, the habit of recycling can be hard to maintain throughout the workplace. However, by placing recycling bins in easy to access spaces, people are more likely to make the change.
In a workplace study, a paper recycling bin was placed in a utility room. Only 28% of paper used in the office was put in this bin to be recycled. However, when a recycle tray was placed on each desk in the office 94% of the paper was recycled.
Reducing paper waste in the workplace is as simple as thinking twice about the decision. If your workplace is still working on paper rather than digitally, consider how you could implement more of a digital workflow. For instance, can you send paperwork through an email instead of posting it out?
If you need to print something, consider making tweaks to how you print. For example, only use black and white ink and colour ink when necessary. Instead of printing on one side, adopt double-sided printing to save paper.
To sustain a recycling program, staff need to feel motivated to make the change in their set ways. Often staff doesn’t recycle because they don’t know why their contribution matters. Ensure that each employee knows what is expected of them, and then speak to that expectation in feedback sessions. With regular communication to staff about recycling and specific feedback regarding the total amount recycled, staff will be able to see why their contribution matters.
Motivated staff will lead to greater results. To get some momentum for the project, consider some collaborative activities, or a fun competition such as bestowing a recycling champion.

Recycling doesn’t have to be a complicated game, nor does it have to take up much of your time. Let’s make it easy: we’ve compiled a list of recycling facts that we think, every Aussie ought to know.
The average Australian produces 1.9 tonnes of waste each year. Put all that waste together, and on whole, Australia produces a whopping 41 million tonnes annually.
Whether you’re a believer in climate change or not, the amount of waste produced in Australia cannot be sustainably tolerated. One person making a change adds up when it’s a collective effort. Moving forward, it’s important to take recycling seriously, and to separate and dispose your waste correctly.
If you’re new to recycling, make it fun! Set yourself the challenge to repurpose something in your house, rather than chucking it out.
The average Australian household waste is comprised of approximately 50% organic waste. However, more often than not, organic waste is chucked in with the normal rubbish.
Common types of organic waste found in the average household:
Organic waste can be recycled into farming or gardening products such as fertilisers and compost. The next time you’re disposing of waste, check to ensure the waste can’t be repurposed in your own home or collected by your local council.
The Southern Metropolitan Regional Council, as well as Cities of Fremantle and Melville, are the first to trial the 3-bin Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) system. The trial commenced October 2017 and was rolled out to 7,000 households. Residents received a new 240L lime green topped bin for FOGO waste, as well as a kitchen caddy to separate materials.
The service is set to expand, but only as demand increases. To register your interest, it’s important you email wac.inbox@cityofperth.wa.gov.au. For residents outside of Perth, contact your local council for more information.
How often do you just throw away your coke can like trash? Aluminum recycling has the ability to save a lot of energy and power across thousands of homes throughout Australia. Simply put, aluminum can be cleaned and melted down, saving 94% of the energy needed to produce aluminum from the ore. That’s a whole lot of saved energy, that can be repurposed to power Australian homes and businesses.
Recently in Western Australia plastic bags have been removed from grocery stores to encourage people to cut down on plastic bag waste. The decision has created widespread controversy, but despite what side of the fence you’re on – it’s a fact that plastic bags are one of Australia’s major waste problems.
The average Australian uses approximately 170 plastic bags every year. Out of the 170 plastic bags, 150 are dumped in landfill. This overwhelming rate of waste adds to 200,000 bags deposited in landfill every hour.
Are you ready to recycle your plastic bags properly? Coles and Woolworths now have plastic bag recycling bins at the front of their shop. Most council recycling bins no longer permit plastic bags in recycling bins. Check with your local council for more information regarding your area.
What do you do with your unwanted batteries? You’re about to think twice about this decision. In Australia, one of the most common waste materials in landfills are batteries.
Every year in Australia, 3,300 tonnes of battery lithium-ion waste is created at a growing rate of 20% each year. However, with the demand for lithium-ion technology increasing, batteries have become a sought-after recyclable product. If recycled, approximately 95% of components of lithium-ion batteries can be used for new batteries or repurposed for other products.

Are you thinking of moving, building or renovating your home? If your project is going to produce the need for waste disposal, you should consider hiring a skip bin. Before you do, you need to understand a few things about the hiring process. This article will explore in what situations you might need a permit to hire and place a skip bin, and in what situations it’s just fine to hire and place without a permit.
Before contacting your local (eco-friendly) skip bin provider, it’s best to establish what you need it for, where it’s going and how long you need it for.
Answer these questions:
On some occasions, a permit will be required.
We’re a skip bin hire company in Perth and have had years of experience working with various councils around the city. From our experience, we can give you some pro tips for Perth:
For most councils in Perth, you do not need a permit. The only time we have found you need a permit is if you are placing the skip bin on the road or footpaths.
If you need a permit, you’ll need to contact your local council. In applying for the permit, the following information will be requested.
The process of applying for a permit can vary from council to council, and may depend on the type of property you’re placing the skip bin on, i.e. house, apartment, townhouse. The biggest factor will be the type of bin you need and where it’ll be positioned.
When applying for the permit, you’ll be asked what kind of waste you’re disposing of.
What CAN go in a skip bin:
What CAN’T go in a skip bin:
If you’re unsure if your waste is permitted in skip bins – contact your local skip bin provider.
When you know what type of project you’re working with and how much waste it’ll be producing, you can choose a type of skip bin. The two common types of skip bins are:
It’s important to note that any skip bin filled above the rim is a risk and will not be collected by the skip bin provider.

Are you unknowingly living in a home or building constructed using asbestos? In Australia, approximately 60% of homes currently standing were built using asbestos cement. Find out how to watch out for asbestos and how to identify if it might be hiding behind any walls or ceilings you are working with.
So if you’re looking at a renovation – or another project that involves getting into your walls and ceiling – have a read below and be aware of the risks of Asbestos in your home or building.
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral made up of durable thin fibres. Asbestos is used in building materials because it’s resistant to heat and doesn’t burn or conduct electricity. The fibre can be commonly found in insulation, cement, plaster, fire blankets and brake pads. But Asbestos becomes dangerous with prolonged exposure to the substance.
Prolonged exposure to asbestos can lead to health problems and in some cases, death. Because the substance is commonly used in building materials, people involved in demolition and maintenance are most at risk. The tiny fibres that dislodge from insulation or building material can be breathed in, get lodged in the lungs, and cause fibrosis, mesothelioma, and cancer.
The first step to identifying asbestos is to figure out how likely it is that your house was built using it. In 2003, asbestos products were banned throughout Australia, but if your home was built before 1990, it most likely contains some form of asbestos.
The majority of homes built in the 1960’s were constructed using asbestos cement. In the 1970’s the majority of homes were still constructed with asbestos cement, and asbestos was used for insulation in the roofing.
If you suspect that your home contains asbestos, it’s best to seek the advice of an expert. Any unprotected contact with the fibres can put you at risk.
Asbestos is a massive health hazard. Not just to the person disposing of the material, but also to unsuspecting victims. In Australia, there are licenced asbestos removal specialists that are trained to remove the material safely. Asbestos products CAN NOT be thrown into a regular skip bin.
If you’re working on a home renovation, it’s best to get the home surveyed by a professional before proceeding with the demolition.

Can one person really make much difference? There is a massive misconception that what a single person does has little impact on the environment. But this is simply not true.
One water bottle a day can add up to 365 plastic bottles in a year. That is a massive 10 kilograms of plastic from one person. Now multiply by Australia’s population. That’s a whole lot of waste. But there is a solution. Did you know that plastic can be upcycled to become 20 t-shirts?
So where do you start? We’ve made recycling easy with a handy recycling guide to help make your household greener.
Not all plastic can be recycled, and it’s important to know the difference to ensure you’re not doing more harm than good.
On the back of every plastic item, there should be a tiny number inscribed. That number signifies whether the plastic item can be recycled easily or if it’s hard for a processing plant to handle.
1 or 2 = RECYCLABLE
5 = DON’T RECYCLE
It’s as easy as that.
Glass is 100% recyclable. There is no excuse whatsoever to throw this in the bin. It takes over a million years for a single glass bottle to disintegrate – It should never go into general waste.
The Do’s
The Don’ts
Simple.
What to do with your metals can be confusing. But if you can – remember that these 4 metals CAN BE recycled.
If you come across items labelled “hazardous waste” they must be handled and disposed of carefully, to avoid endangering the lives of others. Hazardous waste can be:
Do not deposit large amounts of hazardous waste yourself. Communicate with your local council to properly dispose of the waste.
Skip bins are an efficient way to dispose of large amounts of waste. Projects like home renovations can produce a lot of rubble and need to be disposed of correctly. Look for an eco-friendly skip bin provider to sort and dispose of your waste properly.
If you need skip bin hire in Byford, or just have any questions about what can or cannot go in your skip bin, contact us today!
We might not think too seriously about it when we put the wrong piece of rubbish in the wrong bin. But what about tonnes of waste being improperly disposed of? How might that affect us?
It’s an unfortunate truth that illegal dumping and improper waste management are on the rise in Australia – notably so in Perth and WA. This is largely a result of the increased levy that is to be paid when taking waste to the landfill. While the government is trying to encourage industrial companies to dispose of their waste through recycling, the companies themselves are taking the toll.
The landfill rate used to be just $12 per cubic meter of waste, but over the past few years it has been pushed up to $90, and it is set to increase even more, to $105 per cubic meter, by July. Companies are finding that if they were to pay these rates, they would be out of business. In order to avoid this, they are taking their waste elsewhere, where it may not be monitored correctly and could lead to harmful chemicals being released into the environment.
A report by Perth Now found that Perth’s drinking water catchment had been polluted as a direct result from waste stockpiles. These stockpiles accumulate because businesses cannot afford to pay the landfill levy, and are instead forced to hold onto their waste until they can find a way to dispose of it otherwise.
Water in Perth’s drinking water catchment was tested and was found to have an increased concentration of nitrates, heavy metals, and perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, and while the Department of Water and Environmental Regulations assures us that it poses no risk to Perth’s drinking water, it’s still a concerning discovery.
Water pollution can not only be harmful to humans – causing nausea and headaches among other things – but also to the environment. If the pollution becomes too much, it can have a lethal effect on the local marine life.
One of the main concerns for improperly disposed of waste is lingering asbestos fibres. While any demolition crew knows that it is a requirement to remove all asbestos from a house before it is demolished, this is not always done. And what can be said about any fibres lingering in the sheeting, tiles, or plasterboards? If these areas are missed and the waste is sent to be crushed, the lingering asbestos could be a real danger to those surrounding the area.
Similarly, the dust produced from crushing down waste can contain many contaminants. If they are not disposed of properly, this dust can all too easily be blown into nearby towns. While not as dangerous as asbestos, it still poses a risk to neighbouring areas.
While there’s nothing you can do to stop illegal dumping or the increase of the landfill levy, it is true that every little bit helps. Every time you recycle or dispose of your waste properly, you are helping the environment.
And on a larger scale, if you do have a house renovation coming up, or you’re looking to rid yourself of some of the waste that has piled up in your house and garden, or perhaps you’re looking to clean up your workyard or do some small-scale industrial work, hiring a skip bin is a great way to ensure that your waste is handled responsibly. At Bonza Bins, we make sure all of your waste is properly disposed of, so you have nothing to worry about.
