At Bonza Bins we endeavour to recycle as much waste as possible.
When you about hiring a skip bin, you will often be asked what type of waste is going into the bin. This allows us to make a judgement on what would be the best place to take the filled skip bin to, so as much as possible is recycled.
Waste such as sand, bricks, pavers, concrete and roof tiles are easy to recycle. Filled skip bins are taken to a recycling facility which specialises in this type of waste. These can be crushed and be made into road base, for drainage and more.
Greens are another easily recyclable type of waste. Most waste facilities have mulchers which mulch the green waste. Council tips will use this mulch within the local community eg. parks, verges and beautification projects. Private waste facilities will either sell mulch to other business to make their own type of mulch, landscapers and homeowners. Often if there is a glut they will be happy for you to bring a trailer and take it away!!
Mattress have up til recently been a major problem, with all of them going straight to landfill as there was no way of recycling them. Recently a company called Garbologie has opened in the suburb of O’Connor. They receive bed mattress and then break them down into their various components. Metal springs are sold to scrap metal dealers and later smelted to make new steel. Polyurethane foam which is found in some mattresses is in high demand. It is bundled together and sold to companies who the re-use it. Unfortunately some components do not have a ready mark and have to go to landfill.
When a mixed waste bin is taken to a waste transfer station, it is usually sorted. The items that are recyclable are taken out by a variety of means. This can be by people on a “picking belt”, sifter which remove sand and more.
