Skip Bin Hire FAQs

What size skip bin will I need?

This is one of the most commonly asked questions. Estimating is not easy. All our bins are measured in cubic metres (mᶟ). One cubic metre is approximately one standard trailer load. If you are unsure of what size bin that you need, we recommend going one size larger. People often underestimate the amount of rubbish they have. It is cheaper to get a bigger bin than having the cost of a second bin delivered.

As a guide:

Small bathroom renovation – approximately 3 to 4mᶟ
Small household cleanup – about 4mᶟ
Large household cleanup (including furniture) – recommend a 6mᶟ or above
Kitchen renovation – dependent on size but approximately a 4 to 6mᶟ
Please refer to Bin sizes for photos and dimensions of bins.

Can I extend the skip bin hire if I need extra time?

If you find that you need extra time please give us a call and we are happy to extend it for you.

How long can I have the bin for?

Bonza Bins have a hire period for up to 4 days (great for the weekend) or for up to 7 days.

Where can a skip bin be placed?

The skip bin can be placed almost anywhere – providing that the access is good and that our trucks can fit. Generally people place skip bins on the verge, in front of their houses, on the drive or for commercial premises in a car park or loading area.

Do you skip bins have drop down ramps or doors?

All our bins have drop down door or ramps for easy access. The doors are wide enough for a person with a wheelbarrow to go through.

Can I have my skip bin picked up before the end of the hire period?

Yes you can. Just give us a call and one of our drivers will get there as soon as we can to pick up the bin.

Can a skip bin be placed on the road or public land?

The skip bin can only be placed on a road or public land if you have permission from the relevant council or authority. Some councils are happy to do this, whereas others are less likely to do so. Often reflectors or “witches hats” will need to be put around the bin so that drivers can easily see the skip bin.

How can I order a skip bin?

There are several ways you can order a skip bin. You can call on (08) 9331 7271 from 7am-5pm Monday to Saturday or through our “order a bin” page on this website. You can also call email us at bonzabins@blue1000.com.au.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept payment in a number of different ways. Credit card (Visa or Mastercard) when telephoning your order through or by paying cash to the driver on delivery of the bin. We also accept EFT or direct deposit payments. Confirmation of payment will be needed before we can pick the bin up.

When will the bin arrive?

Bin deliveries are usually in the morning, but sometimes maybe in the afternoon depending on how busy we are. We are unable to give a specific delivery time as traffic, weather conditions and the run of the driver can all effect when the bin will arrive. If you need a bin early in the morning, we recommend ordering the bin to be delivered the day before it is needed.

How quickly can my skip bin be delivered?

This depends on how busy we are. It is best to give 1 to 2 days notice, particularly if you require a bin for a weekend. Many times you can ring for a skip bin in the morning and we are able to deliver the same day. For peak periods such as long weekends, Easter and prior to Christmas it is recommended to book several days in advance.

To what level can I fill the skip bin?

The skip bin can only be filled to the top edge of the bin, with no material sticking out. At Bonza Bins, we have a focus on safety. Bins that are overloaded are unsafe and can cause damage to people and property.

What happens if a bin is overloaded?

If a bin is overloaded, the driver will where possible remove some of the items. If this is not possible, we will contact you and ask you to remove the excess waste or we can deliver another skip bin to you to put the excess waste in. We cannot collect overloaded skip bins.

What can I put in the skip bin?

Bonza Bins accept most types of waste including building rubble (bricks, tiles, concrete, sand, concrete), garden and general household waste, whitegoods, wood etc. Many skip bin companies do not allow you to mix “heavy” and “light” materials. In a Bonza Bin you are able to mix these.

What can’t I put in the skip bin?

There are a number of items that can’t go into our skip bins. These include rubber car or truck tyres, hazardous waste, any liquid waste (chemicals, oil, paint – dry is OK), car batteries and asbestos.

There is often confusion about Super 6 fencing and asbestos fencing/other asbestos products. If you are unsure, you can ask one of our knowledgeable drivers to look at it for you at delivery time or leave at the top of the bin for the driver to inspect at pick up. It is cheaper for the asbestos to be removed at the time of skip bin pick up, then to pay extra for an asbestos contaminated bin.
If you are unsure about any waste, please call us on 93317271 and we will be happy to assist you.

What happens if asbestos is found in a bin?

If the driver collecting the bin notices or sees some asbestos, you will be contacted and asked to remove the asbestos before it can be collected. If asbestos is found while tipping the bin (as happens in most cases), you will be liable for the extra cost associated with an asbestos contaminated bin.

Will the skip bin truck or skip bin damage my lawn or driveway?

We take utmost care when delivering our skip bins, however sometimes damage can occur. Our trucks and bins may cause some damage to lawns, but usually grows back quickly. It is not recommended to put a “heavy” 6mᶟ bin or above on driveways as they sometimes crack. If you are concerned about damage, it is best to put the skip bin on the verge.
