With summer just around the corner, it’s time to get the last of the spring cleaning done. If you’ve got a big cleaning job to do, you might be wondering what you’re going to do with all the waste. You could leave it all out on the verge and wait for the next verge side pickup for your area, or you can try hiring a skip bin.
But how do you know if skip bin hire is the right option for you? Here are a few points to help you decide.
All in One Go
If you’re doing a job with a really big clean up afterwards, like a full garden renovation, there may be too much junk to fit it all on the verge at once. You could end up having to make a few trips to the tip to get rid of it all – and the tip may only be open on certain days. All that back-and-forthing can be a lot of hassle and take a lot of time and energy.
Skip bins are designed to hold large quantities of waste – you can hire a skip bin as large as 10m3! This means you can do a big job and dispose of all the waste in just one go. Not only will you have the convenience of disposing of all your waste at once, it’ll even get picked up for you and taken to the relevant recycling or transfer station.
No Waiting Around
For many areas, verge side pick up only happens once a year. This means if you choose this route, you’ll have to plan your clean up jobs around this date. Local councils usually have strict rules about when you can put out your rubbish for collection, often demanding it’s put no earlier than 1 week prior to the collection date. So if your area’s collection date is May and you have a whole lot of mess to dispose of in November, you’re on your own.
With skip bin hire, there’s no waiting around. You can organise skip bin hire any time of year, when you really need it. You’re in control. If you need to extend your hire period, you can organise that and when time’s up, the trash is taken away from you, so you don’t have to deal with it.
Easy and Convenient
Verge side pickup simply can’t match the convenience of a skip bin hire, which lets you dispose of your waste when you want and have it dealt with by professionals. You will have peace of mind that your trash is being disposed of in an environmentally responsible way and you won’t have to go through the hassle of organising it yourself. It’s especially useful for people who need to do a big cleanup, but don’t have the necessary equipment, like a trailer, to get rid of it themselves.
So if you have a big cleaning project on the horizon, why not give skip bin hire a go? Contact Bonza Bins to organise skip bin hire today.
It’s been a long winter, but the sun is finally starting to peep through the clouds as spring comes into full bloom. Flowers are sprouting, bees are buzzing and you’re going to want to be out soaking up the sunshine in your backyard. So why not start the spring cleaning in the garden to help it grow beautifully this season?
If you want your garden looking its greenest for spring, here are a few steps you can take.
The first thing you’ll want to do to renew your garden is to remove any dead or dry debris leftover from the cold winter. Remove weeds and any dead or winter-damaged leaves and branches from your plants, soil, trees and shrubs. Tidy and prune overgrown perennials to make room for new growth. Rake up any leaf cover left over from winter to warm the soil and allow nutrients and water to flow in.
Now that spring is here, it’s time to nourish and nurture your surviving plants with some nutrient-rich food. The food plants like best? Fertiliser! Work a thin layer of fertilizer around all your flowering plants. Fertilising your garden will give it a steady food supply: as the fertiliser breaks down, it can be absorbed by plant roots to aid their growth and flowering.
Spring is the perfect time to repot and transplant any trees, shrubs or flowering plants which have outgrown their pots or bed. Remove plants carefully and try to keep the roots moist while you’re moving the plant. Once you’ve moved the plant to its new home, don’t forget to top up with fresh potting mix or mulch. Buying new pots for repotting can help add a fresh dash of colour to your garden.
With the sun and the rain of spring helping to keep plants healthy, it’s a great time to create new garden beds and plant anything you please! Why not start your own veggie garden or add some colour to your backyard with flowering spring annuals? The sky’s the limit, so plant as much as you want – but make sure you allocate enough space for each one to grow (both across and up!).
Once you finish all your spring cleaning, you’re going to want to sort out all the green waste from your choppings and trimmings. Get in touch with us today to organize hire of a green waste skip bin for your next garden spring clean.

Many of us have attics, basements, garages and other storage areas filled with items in bins and boxes. Dealing with these spaces presents its own challenges.
The key to remember is that this should be reducing your stress, not adding to it. It may be beneficial to enlist the help of a friend who is not sentimental to help you get rid of unwanted items. Let us know how much that will be, and we’ll gladly help with the carry off.
When you’ve got enough rubbish to need a skip bin, you’re likely not looking for any other hassles. These are typically project based hires and you need to get your work done, load the skip and be done with it. But, if you look at online reviews for companies in our business, there are a lot of ways that things can go sideways into skip hiring hell. Here’s what you need to know before you pay for your hired skip.
We’d love to service every skip bin hire across the globe, but that’s impractical. When looking for a skip bin company, ask for personal recommendations. Then, check online reviews and complaints. When you call, ask questions about payment, placement, and contact. Hiring the wrong company can bring you nothing but grief.
Skips are not one size fits all, and unscrupulous operators may try to sell you on a larger skip to make more money. Take the time to go over your project and determine what you need. Your skip hiring company will be able to help you with this.
Nothing is worse than paying for something you can’t use. Schedule a specific date with your skip hire company before you hang up the phone and call back to confirm with them a day or two out. If your skip shows up early, you’re paying for days you can’t use and if it’s late, work may have to halt until it gets there.
Skips are large and cannot be easily moved. A wrongly placed skip can cause traffic problems, block access to property and make the job of loading your rubbish into it a lot harder. Make sure you describe your ideal placement before the driver shows up and ask them to write it down. Make sure you, or someone who understands what you need is there to meet the driver on delivery, or it may get dropped in the easiest location.
Make sure you write down all of the details of who you hired the skip bin from, delivery and pickup dates, and where the skip bin is to be placed. Also get receipts on all payments and confirm details with the skip hire company and the driver at every opportunity. Having a paper trail is your best defence of any issues that may arise in the future.
Moving house can be a stressful and difficult ordeal, but it is one we will all go through at some point in our lives. Whether you’re moving out of home for the first time, buying a new place, or moving to your 5th or 6th rental, while you’re packing you will no doubt find you’ve been hoarding things you don’t really need to take along for the move.
You don’t want to waste precious space in a pricey mover’s truck for things that belong in the bin – but then what are you going to do with all that leftover junk? You won’t be able to stuff it all in your outdoor bin.
The easy solution: save yourself some stress during the move by hiring out a skip bin from Bonza Bins. Here are a few tips on how to make your move easier and maximise the use of your skip bin:
Get Prepped
Being well prepared and organised can help reduce the chaos of moving house. That’s why it’s a good idea to get started on the clean-out several weeks before it’s time to go. Choose one of Bonza Bin’s sturdy skip bins and get the ball rolling nice and early. Go through your items and divide them into categories such as: “Keeping”, “Selling”, “Donating” and “Chucking”. Everything in the “Chucking” pile can be disposed into the skip bin (as long as it complies with the permitted items for that particular bin).
You don’t even need to worry about splitting the waste into “recyclable” and “non-recyclable”: we take all the waste we receive to recycling stations or transfer stations where the waste is sorted and recycled where possible.
Hassle-Free Disposal
Once your hire period is up, our friendly staff will come to collect the bin and dispose of the waste – and just like that the mess is gone! One massive task for the move is taken care of and you can focus on getting the important things sent over to the new place then relax and enjoy your new home.
If you’re about to make a big move of your own, get in contact with us today via our website or calling on 08 9331 7271.
Need to hire a skip bin? Whether you’re expecting a lot of waste from a house party, home renovations or a major garden makeover, a skip bin hire is an easy and affordable way to dispose of large quantities of waste.
If this is your first experience hiring a skip bin, you may be wondering how to get the most out of your hire. To make sure you get the best bang for your buck, we’ve put together some tips for getting the most out of your skip bin.
There’s no need to hire the largest bin if you won’t produce enough waste to fill it. Not sure how much waste will fit a certain sized bin? To give you an estimate, our smallest bin (3m³) holds approximately 3 to 4 standard trailer loads of rubbish. A 4m³ bin would hold 4-5 trailer loads of rubbish and a 6m³ bin would hold 8-9 trailer loads.
When you use a skip bin, it should only be filled to the top edge of the bin with no loose bits sticking out. When filling, getting the most out of your space is a bit like Tetris – try to fit as much in as you can. Little things count – break down cardboard boxes and lay them flat, push the air out of plastic bags, and take a minute to think about how you’ll load it before starting (you won’t want to dig in and do that after it’s full! Overfilled bins are a safety hazard, so if you’ve overloaded, we cannot collect the bin. We may need to contact you and ask you to remove the excess waste. Save yourself the hassle by only filling it to the top edge to begin with.
Bonza Bins accepts most types of waste, but we do have a few no-go items. For safety reasons, you cannot put the following items into the bin: truck tyres, hazardous waste, liquid waste (chemicals, oil, paint, etc.), car batteries and asbestos. If you’re unsure whether something, like a piece of fencing, contains asbestos, you can ask the driver to look at it during delivery time. It pays to make sure, because if a driver notices asbestos while tipping the bin, there are extra costs associated with an asbestos contaminated bin.
When you hire a bin with Bonza Bins, we want you to enjoy the full benefits, so give us a call today.
Skip Bins for Garden Waste Removal
Does your garden need some work? Do you have some overgrown shrubs that need trimming or lawns that need mowing or a tree that keeps dropping leaves in your driveway and really needs a few branches sawn off?
We can all find ourselves guilty of putting off gardening duties: it’s time consuming and worst of all – it makes a big mess! Even if we find the time to get out the mower, pruners or saw, we dread carrying all those twigs and branches out to the verge where they will remain an eyesore until a collection date.
Hiring a skip bin can be a great way to manage the mess after giving your garden a much needed makeover. Not only are skip bins convenient, they’re also economical and when you book through Bonza Bins you can be assured they will be as environmentally friendly as possible too. So what kind of skip bin should you get for your next gardening job?
Green Waste Skip Bins
The skip bin you’ll need for your garden waste is a Green Waste skip bin. This bin is the most appropriate for light waste such as lawn clippings, shrubs, small branches, leaves, palm fronds and tree trunks and stumps smaller than 50cm in length and 30cm in diameter. Bonza Bins offers several different sized bins, depending on the size of the job at hand, and how much waste you expect will be produced.
Save Yourself a Hassle
Hiring a skip bin is a great way to take the hassle out of green waste removal during a big gardening job. Getting a skip bin from Bonza Bins not only gives you an appropriately sized vessel to hold all of that green waste while you’re pruning and trimming, but our team will even dispose of it for you. This means you won’t have to be staring at a mess of twigs and leaves on your front verge waiting for a pick-up, it will be taken away as soon as you’re done.
When you hire a skip bin, you can say goodbye to several trips to the tip and using a heap of plastic bags to keep all the waste together: a skip bin gives you one central location for all the mess so it can be easily disposed of. All of our bins come fitted with drop down ramps so you can easily walk the waste in with a wheelbarrow. This saves a lot more time than collecting everything by hand or in bags and trying to stuff it into your regular bins.

At Bonza Bins, we are committed to working towards a greener future. That’s why our skip bins are covered and your waste will be brought back to recycling centres or transfer stations where it can be sorted and recycled where possible. A question that we get asked all the time by our customers is what size skip bin they will need for their waste. Here is a handy guide to answer all your project questions.
Estimating is not easy. All our bins are measured in cubic metres (mᶟ). One cubic metre is approximately one standard trailer load. If you are unsure of what size bin that you need, we recommend going one size larger. People often underestimate the amount of rubbish they have. It is cheaper to get a bigger bin than having the cost of a second bin delivered.
As a guide:
Small bathroom renovation – approximately 3 to 4mᶟ
Small household cleanup – about 4mᶟ
Large household cleanup (including furniture) – recommend a 6mᶟ or above
Kitchen renovation – dependent on size but approximately a 4 to 6mᶟ
Please refer to Bin sizes for photos and dimensions of bins.
At Bonza Bins we endeavour to recycle as much waste as possible.
When you about hiring a skip bin, you will often be asked what type of waste is going into the bin. This allows us to make a judgement on what would be the best place to take the filled skip bin to, so as much as possible is recycled.
Waste such as sand, bricks, pavers, concrete and roof tiles are easy to recycle. Filled skip bins are taken to a recycling facility which specialises in this type of waste. These can be crushed and be made into road base, for drainage and more.
Greens are another easily recyclable type of waste. Most waste facilities have mulchers which mulch the green waste. Council tips will use this mulch within the local community eg. parks, verges and beautification projects. Private waste facilities will either sell mulch to other business to make their own type of mulch, landscapers and homeowners. Often if there is a glut they will be happy for you to bring a trailer and take it away!!
Mattress have up til recently been a major problem, with all of them going straight to landfill as there was no way of recycling them. Recently a company called Garbologie has opened in the suburb of O’Connor. They receive bed mattress and then break them down into their various components. Metal springs are sold to scrap metal dealers and later smelted to make new steel. Polyurethane foam which is found in some mattresses is in high demand. It is bundled together and sold to companies who the re-use it. Unfortunately some components do not have a ready mark and have to go to landfill.
When a mixed waste bin is taken to a waste transfer station, it is usually sorted. The items that are recyclable are taken out by a variety of means. This can be by people on a “picking belt”, sifter which remove sand and more.
