Don’t Fall Into Skip Bin Hire Hell

Posted on Friday, July 15th, 2016

When you’ve got enough rubbish to need a skip bin, you’re likely not looking for any other hassles. These are typically project based hires and you need to get your work done, load the skip and be done with it. But, if you look at online reviews for companies in our business, there are a lot of ways that things can go sideways into skip hiring hell. Here’s what you need to know before you pay for your hired skip.

Do your Homework

We’d love to service every skip bin hire across the globe, but that’s impractical. When looking for a skip bin company, ask for personal recommendations. Then, check online reviews and complaints. When you call, ask questions about payment, placement, and contact. Hiring the wrong company can bring you nothing  but grief.

Get the Right Skip

Skips are not one size fits all, and unscrupulous operators may try to sell you on a larger skip to make more money. Take the time to go over your project and determine what you need. Your skip hiring company will be able to help you with this.

Make Certain of the Schedule

Nothing is worse than paying for something you can’t use. Schedule a specific date with your skip hire company before you hang up the phone and call back to confirm with them a day or two out. If your skip shows up early, you’re paying for days you can’t use and if it’s late, work may have to halt until it gets there.

Carefully go Over the Placement

Skips are large and cannot be easily moved.  A wrongly placed skip can cause traffic problems, block access to property and make the job of loading your rubbish into it a lot harder. Make sure you describe your ideal placement before the driver shows up and ask them to write it down. Make sure you, or someone who understands what you need is there to meet the driver on delivery, or it may get dropped in the easiest location.

Keep Careful Records

Make sure you write down all of the details of who you hired the skip bin from,  delivery and pickup dates, and where the skip bin is to be placed.  Also get receipts on all payments and confirm details with the skip hire company and the driver at every opportunity. Having a paper trail is your best defence of any issues that may arise in the future.
